Advanced options
The Advanced Options menu is essential for ensuring correct import execution. It enables the system to properly read your file during the import phase and allows you to choose how to import recipients.
After uploading the file to the platform, on the second page of the import process, you’ll find the "Advanced Options" section. Click to open the menu and select among the available settings:
Only when importing mobile numbers for future SMS deliveries, indicate whether the country code is in a separate cell or included in the phone number;
If the contact fields in the file are empty, the system automatically overwrites any existing data. Make sure to check "Do not overwrite empty contact fields" to retain existing data;
If cell values are enclosed in double quotation marks, select the option 'Ignore double quotation marks' to insert the value without the quotes, avoiding incorrect key alerts;
Select "Replace group affiliation" when exporting recipients from MailUp and re-importing them. This will remove any previous group affiliations and apply the group assignments made during the new import;
Send the confirmation email to subscribers: once the import is complete, the MailUp system will automatically send the selected confirmation communication;
You can import email addresses as unsubscribed (in this case, the type of unsubscription will be listed as 'import' within the users’ profiles);
The last two functions should be performed only if you are certain the contacts need to be re-subscribed to avoid future reports from our Abuse Desk:
Force subscription for users currently suspended;
Force subscription for users currently unsubscribed.

Email Marketing Best Practices – Subscription Reconfirmation
If the recipients you’re importing haven’t received a communication in over six months, we recommend importing them as suspended and sending an email to confirm their subscription preference. This approach helps ensure a clean list, which contributes to optimal delivery rates (e.g., fewer errors and abuse reports).
You can do this by checking the "Send confirmation request email" advanced option. Choose whether to send the default confirmation message for your list or a previously created message with the "Confirm subscription request" advanced option enabled. Once the import is completed, the confirmation request email, including the link for explicit confirmation, will be automatically sent by the system to the imported recipients. In this case, contacts are imported as suspended. When they click the confirmation link, they will automatically be categorized as subscribed addresses.
