I'm creating a message in a foreign language, but some characters are missing. How do I get them?

The encoding of special characters, or characters typical of a given language, can be set at the list level, to accommodate the preferences of the majority of subscribers to a specific list. You will find it under Settings => Edit List.

The most common encoding is "UTF-8", while "Latin-9" is highly recommended for European languages. "Latin-I" has high compatibility, but problems with viewing accents and accented words may arise.

To change the settings, please follow these steps:

  1. Once you are in the "Edit Lists" page, click on the pencil-shaped icon on the right part of the screen;
  2. Click on "Show advanced options" at the bottom of the page;
  3. Scroll the page until you find the option "Charset", then select the chosen encoding from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on "Save" at the bottom of the page to save the settings.

This operation will match the contents of the newsletter to the charset in the recipient's email client.

As an alternative, you can replace special characters with their HTML coding: for example, in Italian "è" becomes "&eacute".
Conversion tables of special characters into HTML code can be easily found on the Internet. In this scenario, the encoding is no longer an issue, since the recipient's email client will recognize these keywords and convert them into the corresponding special character.
